New Jersey Stormwater Animations

We were asked to create an engaging set of animations for Engineering & Land Planning Associates (E&LP). They worked on Guidelines for the new stormwater rules in New Jersey. E&LP were involved with creating documents to communicate to developers about how stormwater runoff is managed on all new projects. As part of that effort, they produced videos to help communicate some of the main parts of their report. We worked to create something simple yet engaging and had a lot of fun doing it.

Design
We were inspired by the work of the painter Wayne Thiebaud who paints landscapes AND pastries. The design of this Lilliputian New Jersey started with a color palette whose colors each captured a different aspect of the environment we were trying to communicate (water, green, amenity, atmosphere, etc). The forms for the models were pulled from a common vocabulary of generated shapes.

We developed a unique look to communicate the different challenges and benefits of these new rules.

Production
Using Blender and After Effects we were able to build highly dimensional images within a reasonable budget.
